Stuart Hall's representation theory states media does not just reflect reality; it actively constructs it by using language, signs, and symbols to give things meaning. My collage shows that identity is made up of lots of different things, which links to Stuart Hall’s idea that representation constructs meaning. The flags show my Nigerian heritage and countries I have visited such as Morocco, Türkiye and Greece, and the different films and series I have watched, also the foods I enjoy, so together they show that identity is always changing and made from lots of different things, not one fixed thing. Most of my shows are American and British, which are quite known in the media, which shows how much the media has shaped my taste, and I’m choosing which parts to enjoy and take from them, which is like Hall’s idea of a negotiated reading in his encoding and decoding model.
